Mail insulation for polymer insulators
Various polymer insulation materials have been developed over the years, but only some have been successful in outdoor insulation. Now, there are basically three classes that are important to use:
1. Epoxy resin
2. Ethylene propylene rubber
3. Silicone rubber
Epoxy resin for polymer insulators
Epoxy resin shows good long-term performance in clean environment, but its performance is far from satisfactory under pollution conditions. Therefore, the use of epoxy resin is limited by specific conditions.Suitable for distribution class insulators of 69kV and below.
Ethylene propylene rubber for polymer insulators
Three kinds of vinyl rubber are used for outdoor polymer insulators:
1: ethylene propylene monomer (EPM)
2: EPDM
3: allene-silicon copolymer (alloy)
Suitable for insulators below 765kV.Their long-term performance in clean environments has been successful.
Silicone rubber for polymer insulators
Silicone rubber has proven to be the most reliable polymer material for outdoor electrical insulation. It comes in three common types:
1. Room temperature vulcanization (RTV)
2. High temperature vulcanization (HTV)
3. Liquid silicone rubber (LSR)
Silicone rubber is hydrophobic for a long time. This is important because it has the ability to inhibit leakage current activity, thereby preventing flashover and power system blackouts. The current trend is to use silicone rubber in the shells of all types of polymer insulators for overhead lines.
