Seven physical properties of silicone rubber

silicone rubber

Life in the supplies, including household appliances, kitchen supplies, electronic products, will use silicone rubber products as accessories.Today, it's about the physical properties that make silicone rubber so popular.

1. The viscosity.Viscosity refers to the volumetric resistance of liquid, liquid or solid to flow, that is, the internal friction or flow resistance between molecules when they flow under the action of external force.Usually viscosity is proportional to hardness.

2. The hardness. The ability of a material to resist locally pressing hard material into its surface is called hardness.silicone rubber has a shore hardness range of 10 to 80, which gives designers full freedom to choose the required hardness to best achieve a specific function.Various intermediate hardness values can be achieved by mixing polymer substrates, fillers and additives in different proportions.Similarly, the time and temperature at which it is heated and cured can also change the hardness without damaging other physical features.

3. Tensile strength.Tensile strength is the force required per unit of range to tear a sample of rubber material. The tensile strength range of hot sulfur organic silicone rubber is between 4.0 MPa and 12.5MPa.The tensile strength of fluoro silicone rubber ranges from 8.7 to 12.1MPa.The tensile strength of liquid silicone rubber ranges from 3.6 to 11.0MPa.

4. Tear strength.Resistance to expansion of incisions or notches when applied to a sample with incisions.Even when cut open and placed under extremely high torsional stress, hot sulfur type solid silicone rubber can not be torn. The tearing strength of hot-sulfur silicone rubber ranges from 9 to 55 kN/m.The tearing strength ranges from 17.5 to 46.4 kN/m.The tearing strength of liquid silicone rubber ranges from 11.5 to 52 kN/m.

5. Elongation.Usually refers to "ultimate elongation at fracture" or the percentage of the sample that grows relative to the original length when it breaks. The typical elongation ranges from 90 to 1120%.The average elongation of fluoro silicone rubber is between 159 and 699%.The average elongation of liquid silicone rubber is between 220 and 900 percent. The elongation can be greatly changed by different processing methods and choice of hardener. The elongation of silicone rubber has a great relationship with temperature.

6. Operating time. The operating time is calculated from the moment the gel is added to the curing agent. In fact, there is no complete limit between this operating time and that curing time. The gel has been curing reaction since the moment the curing agent is added. This operating time means that the product can be cured for 30 minutes without affecting the quality of the finished product. So the more time saved in the process of product operation, the better for the finished product.

7. Curing time. Some places say curing time. That is to say, after such a long time of silica gel vulcanization reaction is basically over. This is basically over which means that the product is already available, but there's actually a very small portion of the curing reaction that's not over yet.So products made with silicone rubber, such as silicone molds, are often left for a while before being put into use.
