What are the product characteristics and application range of silicone rubber?
The silicone rubber polymer molecule is a chain structure formed by Si-O (silicon-oxygen) bonds, and its main component is linear polysiloxane with high molar mass.
Since the Si-O-Si bond is the basic bond type, the silicon atom is mainly connected to the methyl group, a very small amount of unsaturated groups are introduced into the side chain, the intermolecular force is small, the molecule is in a helical structure, and the methyl group faces outward. Arranged and freely rotatable, silicone rubber has better heat resistance, electrical insulation, chemical stability, etc. than other common rubbers. The typical silicone rubber is polydimethylformaldehyde siloxane, which has a helical molecular configuration, and its intermolecular force is small.
Therefore, it has good resilience, and at the same time, the formaldehyde group pointing out of the helix can rotate freely, so that the silicone rubber has unique surface properties, such as hydrophobicity and surface anti-adhesion.
Main features and uses of silicone products:
Heat resistance: Silicone rubber has much better heat resistance than ordinary rubber, and can be used almost forever without performance change at 150 degrees; it can be used continuously at 200 degrees for 10,000 hours; it can also be used at 350 degrees a period of time. Widely used in occasions that require heat resistance: hot water bottle sealing ring, heat-resistant handle of pressure cooker ring.
Cold resistance: Ordinary rubber is delayed at -20 degrees to -30 degrees, that is, silicone rubber still has good elasticity at -60 degrees to -70 degrees, and some specially formulated silicone rubbers can also withstand extremely low temperatures.
Weather resistance: Ordinary rubber degrades rapidly under the action of ozone generated by corona discharge, while silicone rubber is not affected by ozone. And under ultraviolet light and other climatic conditions for a long time, its physical properties will only change slightly.
Conductivity: When conductive fillers such as carbon black are added, silicone rubber has conductive contact points for keyboards.
Thermal conductivity: Silicone rubber is thermally conductive when certain thermally conductive fillers are added.
Electrical properties: Silicone rubber has high resistivity, and its resistance value remains stable in a wide range of temperature and frequency. At the same time, silicone rubber has good resistance to high-voltage corona discharge and arc discharge.
Radiation resistance: The radiation resistance of silicone rubber containing phenyl groups is greatly improved.
Air permeability: Silicone rubber film has better air permeability than ordinary rubber and plastic waxed film. Another feature is that it has strong selectivity to different air permeability.
Flame retardancy: Silicone rubber itself is flammable, but when a small amount of flame retardant is added, it has flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties; and because silicone rubber does not contain organic halides, it does not emit smoke or emit poisonous gas when burned.
Use of silicone rubber: It can be used for molding high-voltage insulation and other electronic components; it can be used in the production of TVs, computers, copiers, etc. It is also used as a molded gasket that requires weather resistance and durability, a packaging material for electronic parts, and a maintenance material for automotive electrical parts. It can be used for house construction and restoration, joint sealing of highways, caulking of reservoirs and bridges. In addition, there are special-purpose silicone rubbers, such as conductive silicone rubber, medical silicone rubber, foam silicone rubber, molding silicone rubber, heat shrinkable silicone rubber, etc.
